US Government Update Cancer Website To Include Medicinal Value Of Weed
The US Government has released a report on its official cancer website, stating that ‘cannabinoids may be useful in treating the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment.'
Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds that are found in the cannabis plant, and the update on the website following the release of the report, includes the information that 'Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.’ It also states that 'A study in mice showed that cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment.’
If you put the issue of legalisation to one side. If you disregard the question of recreational cannabis use. If you ignore socio-economical and political issues and simply address the idea that Cannabinoids may offer something in the way of treatment, then a refusal to explore the possibility would be utterly insane. The wider reaching consequences of cannabis use is a separate conversation, for a separate article (many, in fact), but the medicinal benefits of using cannabinoids cannot be ignored. If given the choice between the possibility of a ‘may’ and no possibility at all, the former has to be at least tabled for conversation, and the update to the website is at least starting the conversation.
