Pulling a whitey, one of the worst parts of smoking cannabis. Most people only ever have them once in a blue moon and when they do, it feels like it might never end. Google dictionary describes whiteys as:
‘Whitey is a drug slang term for when a recreational drug user, as a direct or indirect result of drug use, begins to feel faint. The term comes from the way one's skin turns pale during and after a fainting episode.’
So how can you make sure that you don’t whitey, or when you do, that you can get back to some sort of baseline?
Well first of all, we need to look at what causes a whitey. Cannabis reduces blood pressure, and when your blood pressure gets too low you start feeling faint. It’s also contributed to by a drop in blood sugar, which can make you feel even worse. The best way to combat both of these is by getting your blood sugar and your blood pressure back up.
Sugary drinks are the best way to get sugar back into your body and fast. Because drinks like orange juice and Coca Cola have dissolved sugar in them, your body doesn’t have to break down the sugar in order to use them. You can drink one of these and get your blood pressure and blood sugar back up in around 5-10 minutes. You’ll start feeling immediately better.
It’s a small but effective trick but worth remembering for those brief moments when you are a friend have gone a bit too far. Make sure you’ve always got something sugary and cold on hand to bring you round, you’ll be feeling so much better for it.
Try not to smoke on an empty stomach too, having something inside you will mean your body isn’t looking for that sugar when your blood pressure starts to drop.
