The Dandy Warhols performed at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles last night (June 4) at an event supporting US marijuana legislation reform.
Bauhaus’ David J also spun tunes at the event, which benefited the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), which aims to remove criminal penalties for marijuana use, with a particular emphasis on making marijuana medically available to seriously ill people.
Throughout the evening, people mixed and mingled with Playboy bunnies who were making the rounds of the elaborate grounds. “Seeing my first bunny was like seeing a yeti!” Dandy Warhols frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor told NME.COM. He added that this was the band’s first visit to Hugh Hefner’s legendary mansion.
Kyle Gass—one half of the Tenacious D duo along with MPP board member Jack Black—kicked off the night with a brief set. MC Fairuza Balk then told the sizeable crowd about the advantages of legalising marijuana, before The Dandy Warhols took the stage for a 40-minute set.
“My plan is that everyone who’s stoned tonight will enjoy it, and those who aren’t will feel like they are,” keyboardist Zia McCabe told the crowd.
Taylor quipped that it would be terrible if the US became like Holland, where marijuana use is legal and “where everyone is educated and rides bikes.”
